This is the expression Tenzin has when Tarrlok attacks Korra with paparazzi, forcing her to join the task force, which was something she was initially against. It’s all in his face on what he thinks about this, and aside from Pema, who isn’t shown, he’s the sole person who knows that this isn’t good. This isn’t good for Republic City, and more importantly, not good for Korra. He has nothing but the best intentions for Korra in mind, and lets see how he lowers his head when she makes the proclamation that she will join the task force and raid .
His face can be taken as disappointment, but I interepet more on the lines of sadness. He knows this isn’t the right thing to do, and with Korra’s emotions and pressures coming up to a boiling point, it’s not healthy for her as well. He sees beyond the Avatar and recognizes the frightened little girl inside. We all have that in us, the frightened child, and the expression is shown visibly on his face. I have no doubt in my mind that if it weren’t for the many people and cameras that Tenzin would’ve blown that shady slug out.
Tarrlok had the nerve to disturb Tenzin and his family’s dinner. He was in the middle of a prayer, and I don’t know what it’s equivalent in this world might be. Still, it was a family prayer, and that’s something you just don’t do without apologizing.
Here is Korra. Look at her face. Look at it. Absorb it. She is not in a safe zone right now. She is far from one. She is unsure and uncomfortable, and the only person who can see it clearly is Tenzin. Who didn’t want to reach into the television screen and hug and cradle her? I did, but I know she would’ve squeezed me to death. Also, something else I noticed, and this is what partially led to Tarrlok’s paparazzi attack.
Apologies to the quality, but that is Tarrlok smirking after he called Chief Lin Bei Fong to Korra. Oh, he is a sneaky bastard. He knows where Korra stands in this; she even said to him, “You’re the only authority figure who seems to want me here.” And he probably knows that Lin does not think highly of Korra; he wanted to shake Korra’s confidence, her security even more. Smirking happened after Lin berated Korra for know good reason, and I’m really curious as to why she feels this way. Lin has serious entitlement issues. This was a warm up to what was going to happen next. He’s playing with her, and this makes him more similar to Amon than we thought. Someone already listed all the similarities between them, but their tactics concerning Korra are eerily similar. He is a bully.
The one I wanted to talk about. Mako, Bolin, and Asami. Not so much as Asami because she’s simply gorgeous and smiling, and she doesn’t really “understand” what’s going on. Unless, she knows more than what she’s letting on, but I’m not going to get into that. Her smile is creepy though.
Bolin and Mako are surprised and confused. They don’t understand what’s going on, and they are at a total lost as to why Korra would do this. Another pointer, shows that don’t really know Korra that well to predict her intentions. They are her friends, but they’re not…friend-friends. They haven’t reached the Katara and Sokka status, and I’m not trying to demean them in any way. You have to remember that Aang had Katara and Sokka, he had friends, not just Appa. They don’t know. They don’t get it. Mako might be off, but I don’t blame him entirely. He doesn’t know what’s going on with Korra, and while he’s appreciative of her, she did help him save his brother, he’s not necessarily close to her.
Bolin on the other hand, did show his appreciation to Korra. He didn’t notice her lack of enthusiasm, her lack of energy, which is unfounded in Korra, but he was there. He did give her some recognition that he cared. I’m keeping my shipping issues out of this, most of them that is, but Bolin did come out a little bit in this. We haven’t gotten enough screen time with him, and it was a delight to have him there.
Can you see them? Probably not. Scene when the Chi-Blockers ambush Korra. Remember what shows up immediately after, after the black screen pops up,
This. This appears to be a hopeless situation doesn’t it.
And the doe eyes. Korra appears to be a child in this scene. It’s really short. Very quick, but she does. A frightened, little girl, who is desperately in need of a savior, and this is completely unlike Korra. Confident and head strong, and all of that is flown out of the window by one person. She’s a little girl. A terrified, little girl who doesn’t know what to do, and then, we’re brought to this.
She is going to lose her bending. Her identity. She is the Avatar, after all, and those doe eyes, innocent and frightened, are shattered with the realization of what can come. Of what can possible come if she doesn’t do what must be done. “Although it would be the simplest thing for me to take away your bending right now, I won’t. You’d only become a martyr.” I do not want to hear Korra and martyr in the same sentence. Just no.
We all know what happens. Korra has a moment when she does ball up, in her face, it shows that defiance, but Amon shatters it once more with his words. He’s breaking her in and out, and Korra is at a submissive role now. Instead of taking her bending, he taunts her and knocks her out. She has the flashback with Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Yukone. She sees Tenzin, who she mistakes as Aang “Aang?“
Tenzin acts like a mentor and father to Korra. “Did he take your bending?” Naturally, he should ask that question; she is the one meant to defeat Amon. She is the Avatar, but his voice sounds like a frightened, concerned parent. Have you ever heard that kind of voice from you mother, father, or guardian? Anyone who was meant to watch and protect you, that voice, “Did he take your bending? Did he hurt you?” Then she begins to break down in tears, and she rushes into his arm. He pauses for a quick half-second, shocked that she would do it, but he immediately hugs her back. Aw, Tenzin and Korra, you have me feel so many feels. Just so many.
no :c i still like makorra. BUT i think i’ll like Asami soon enough and i’m ngl, MAKO AND ASAMI DO MAKE A GREAT COUPLE. GDI THEY ARE BOTH PERFECT CHARACTERS. Srsly, Asami is gorgeous! /conflicted feelings ffff
So as some of you may know, Janet Varney, the voice actor for Korra, has a podcast that she does, and this is the most recent episode. I normally wouldn’t post it since it’s not Korra-centric per say, but I have a few things to say about this. I took the first 45 seconds.
She seems like the sweetest, most good-natured person.
As soon as it began, I was like… yep. I’m never going to hear her as anything other than Korra from now on. Not to the degree of Dante Basco (hell, you hear his voice and you wanna cover up one eye and go HONORRRRR), but still. It’s pretty distinctive to me now.
So yeah, just listen to like 15 seconds of it. I just love her and her voice.
God Grace just start a Janet Varney appreciation tumblr and get it over with
I SPIT OUT MY DRINK WHEN I LISTED TO THIS OH MY GOD KORRA.
this actually literally just sounds like korra doing a podcast omg. i want to meet this woman in real life and fangirl over her voice. OMG WHEN SHE SAID “hey you guys” though
When I was a kid, I didn't have a laptop, iPod, Blackberry, PS3, Wifi or iPads. I played outside with friends, bruised my knees, made up stories and played hide and seek. I ate what my mom made. I would think twice before I said "no" to my parents. Life wasn't hard, it was good & I survived. Kids these days are spoiled. Reblog this if you appreciate the way you were raised. I think we were happier kids.
I always went fishing in the muddy ponds and sand rivers around my house, together with my friend and his sister.
Wow kat, you spoiled little ungrateful sixteen year old brat. Kidding, ily anyways
Ah, this makes me reminisce over my childhood in Korea: flying kites, playing and laughing in the streets of my neighborhood, catching those slippery loaches by the Hangang with my brother, and so much more.
